Literature That Inspires Us: The Wind and The Willows
Among Kristen’s childhood in Tennessee, her travels to the European countryside, and her life in New York City, a big inspiration for the brand Byrne & Bittle has been classic children’s literature, like Beatrix Potter, The Wind in the Willows, Grimm’s Fairytales and more. The brand is meant to encapsulate that feeling as if you’re in a classic fairytale; whimsical, nostalgic, and playful, all while maintaining luxurious and high-quality products to assure your Byrne & Bittle pieces last a lifetime.
The Wind in the Willows is the story of several animal friends and neighbors in the English countryside written by Kenneth Grahame. The concept came to him when he would make up bedtime stories for his son until the book was finally published in 1908. The classic English literature piece focused on artfully crafted descriptions of the English countryside while exciting adventures transpire.
“This is a story about friends, Rat and Mole, who live near the river. They are very different, but they managed to unite and overcome fears. They opposed selfish ferrets in the world. Of course, this is a fairy tale for children which tells them there is a clear distinction between good and evil. But at the same time, it is a story about us, about our society, where power is everything, where the houses are demolished for the sake of profit.”
