Behind The Brand
Owner, founder, and designer of Byrne & Bittle, Kristen Callahan, was a new mother looking for sophisticated and stylish clothes for her newborn daughter. Having often spent time working in Europe, she sought that same heirloom quality she saw in boutiques there. Unable to find it in the US, the concept of the brand was born, and soon after, the vision was very clear - she wanted to create styles that were timeless and high quality, yet whimsical and playful.
With experience in the luxury fashion industry working for some of the top brands in the world such as Celine and Alaia, Kristen’s mission was to create children’s clothes that incorporated elevated details and fabrics that felt just as luxurious as the women's collections she often worked with. Her experiences and relationships formed throughout her time in this industry gave her the opportunity to source fabrics from the top fabric mills in the world.
The cotton poplin fabric is softer than the average poplin, with a “peach fuzz” feel. The Technical Cashmere was developed by one of the top mills in Italy and feels like true cashmere, though it is 100% cotton. This mill also produces fabric for brands such as Brunello Cucinelli.
Byrne & Bittle is inspired by Kristen’s childhood in Tennessee, her travels to the European countryside, her life in New York City, as well as classic children’s literature, like Beatrix Potter, The Wind in the Willows, Grimm’s Fairytales and more. The brand is meant to encapsulate feelings of being in a classic fairytale - whimsical, nostalgic and playful, all while maintaining luxurious and high quality products to assure your Byrne & Bittle pieces last a lifetime.
This collection is just the beginning for Byrne & Bittle. The Spring Collection is already in the works with breezy, lightweight Swiss dot voiles and Broderie Anglaise inlays. Other ideas along toys and accessories are being dreamed up daily by Kristen and the team.
